Traders from Brixton Station Road and Atlantic Road met yesterday to unite over Network Rail’s plans to evict them in six months for their redevelopment of the arches.
They came up with a name for their campaign – Brixton Community United. The name reflects the strength of feeling across the board against the plans which, with higher rents expected after the redevelopment, would make it very difficult for any current traders to return to their units.
The petition to save the shops under the arches on Atlantic Road, Brixton Station Road and Railton Road has reached almost 15,000 followers. Look out for paper petitions in the shops soon too.
See here for statements from Network Rail, Brixton Pound and Brixton BID.
