Brixton Boundaries for the London Festival of Architecture
Brixton Boundaries is an immersive installation that explores physical and emotional boundaries experienced by the local community using illuminations, mapping and film. It opens Downstairs at The Department Store Saturday 8 June and runs till 16 June.
The exhibition is a collaboration between design/architecture studios AWMA and Squire & Partners and is part of London Festival of Architecture 2019, the world’ biggest annual architecture festival.
“Recognising that boundaries form part of our everyday experience, we set out to identify which helped people to feel secure and which form barriers to growth and inclusion.”
A community workshop involving local people of all ages and backgrounds, came together to explore ways in which boundaries shape community and how to break them down. Illuminations, mapping and film are used to explore the them.
Visitors can add their own experience to the map and graffiti wall. Local neighbourhood and school groups will explore how boundaries define them throughout the week.
You can view video of the workshop here.
