Want to put something back into the local community but not sure what to do or where to go? Brixton charity Volunteer Centre Lambeth is a good place to start as it is offering a free volunteering workshop on November 7.
The workshop is called ‘An introduction to volunteer’ and is aimed at people wanting to gently dip their toes into the world of volunteering. Jemima Hartshorn, the charity’s volunteer development officer, says “We regularly see that beginning volunteering has a really positive impact on people’s self-esteem, provides them with new experiences and skills that can enhance employability and also allows for forming of new social contacts.”
The Volunteer Centre supports volunteers in finding the right volunteering roles for their availability, skills and other requirements. In addition, it also works with community organisations and charities operating in the borough, supporting them in recruiting, managing and retaining volunteers.
The charity also offers drop-in sessions at its Brixton location where an experienced adviser will help you locate suitable volunteering roles. So, there are are plenty of opportunities of enhancing your CV, gaining some new skills whilst making you feel all fuzzy inside because you are doing something worthwhile for others.
