My Size – A Brixton based short film

My SizeLocal writer and actress, Anjela Lauren Smith, recently hosted a Ritzy screening of her new short film, My Size.

Filmed in the Knight Webb Gallery on Atlantic Road, it’s the story of an encounter between Panther, a brazen young predator, and the slightly older Ella, who is (shall we say) pounced upon as she takes in some art.

But is Ella the cougar? That is the question and undoubtedly the motivation for the amusing cat references throughout.

For all its awkwardness, the dialogue appears beautifully crafted. As it goes, it was mostly adlibbed and the two actors only met on set moments before shooting. This provides the short with some organic uneasiness.

The brash confidence of our young male keeps the tension high as Ella struggles to draw that line between distance and a kind of indulgent spontaneity that comes from flattery.

So we wait to see whether, in fact, Panther pulls it off. Whether, for all his chat, he is indeed Ella’s “size”….

Anjela has been kind enough to post her short film online for us all to see. To watch it click here.
