Unexploded WW2 bomb unearthed in Acre Lane, Brixton

An unexploded shell is continuing to cause a scare at a building site on Acre Lane, Brixton, this afternoon.

According to reports the WW2 bomb was discovered on the site near Strathleven Road, Acre Lane, causing police to evacuate the area at about 2.40pm. Traffic on Acre Lane is subject to delays.

James Roblin, who works at the Grand Union pub opposite the construction site, said builders had been sent home for the day and police remain at the scene. He said on Twitter that the situation was “quietening down” at 3pm.

Plato Road is closed at the junction with Strathleven Road.
