A pioneering ice-skating group from Brixton is hoping to re-invent the modern skating scene with their new show at Planet Ice, Popes Road.
Patin Libre, a south London quartet, will debut their contemporary ice dance show in Alexandra Palace on Wednesday (January 9), before transferring to Planet Ice, Brixton, on Saturday (January 12).
Their show, previewed below, aims to provide the antidote to showbiz-style “Dancing on Ice” shows that dominate the British media.
Troop member Alexandre Hamel said he hopes the new art form will provide a “little revolution” in the ice skating world.
He said: “We’re all from the world of traditional skating, so we’re trained in show-business. So the beginnings of the troop were done in that mindset, though we had the desire to do something new.
“After five years we’re developing new thoughts about the medium.”
Samory Ba said: “We want to show the world that we can do figure skating, that it doesn’t have to be stereotypical. And that there’s an immense potential.”
Rule of Three, by Patin Libre, debuts at Alexandra Palace on January 9 at 8pm and at Planet Ice, Brixton on January 12 at 8.30pm.
