Nanban, a restaurant central to Brixton’s growth as a destination for food lovers, has closed. It will continue to provide takeaways via Deliveroo.
A statement on its website says: “Thanks for all your custom since 2015, we have had an amazing experience bringing our style of ramen to Brixton and we hope to see you all again soon.”
The acclaimed restaurant was founded by MasterChef winner Tim Anderson and served Japanese-based fusion dishes.
The Blog, in 2015, described the food as “seriously, seriously good”.
Its lazy goat ragu-men was named as TimeOut’s best dish in London.
The ground floor of 424 Coldharbour, which housed part of Nanban, is being offered for rent on a 10-15 year lease at £50,000 a year by the Davis Coffer Lyons, a property agency specialising in food, drink and leisure.
The striking 426 Coldharbour Lane with its tiled “Theatre Restaurant” was the main entrance to Nanban and was once an eel and pie shop.
The Nanban announcement comes close on the heels of the closure of Federation Coffee in the Granville Arcade section of Brixton Village – another long-established trader with a big role in the changing face of Brixton.
