Brixton Bulls rugby league football club have been awarded a £4,300 grant to fund new kit and equipment and help more children and young people to play rugby league in South London.
It comes from the CreatedBy Rugby League World Cup 2021 capital grants legacy programme, which has £10m of government money to support the legacy of the 2021 Rugby League World Cup (RLWC2021), that is due to be held in England, by growing participation in the sport.
Brixton Bulls are sponsored by Hunters estate agents.
“Everyone at the club is looking forward to RLWC2021 and we are sure that a number of fixtures in London will help to inspire the next generation of young players in the capital,” said Bulls chair Philippa Robson.
Jon Dutton, chief executive of RLWC2021, said: “We are delighted to award this grant to Brixton Bulls and look forward to seeing the results of this investment that aims to deliver real change in their community.”
The Bulls run junior teams for children aged from four to 14, and train all year round.
Junior training will resume from 10.30 to 11.30 am on Saturday 5 September at Woodmansterne School, Stockport Road, SW16 5XE.
Sessions will be strictly in line with the sport’s return to play guidance, which has been approved by the government.

What is rugby league?
Two versions of rugby are played in the UK. The main difference between rugby league and rugby union is that league has 13 players in a team, and union 15.
League has always been a professional sport and was once played largely in the North of England. Union dropped its amateur status in 1995.
League is usually considered the faster game with fewer, smaller “scrums”.
