More famed for its African and Latin music jams than anything else, tonight the Hootananny will be the venue for the first Brixton Book Jam.
Billed as an “eclectic gathering for people who are passionate about books”, it will mix readings, talks and panels in a heady night of literature for book-lovers.
A host of local writers will talk for five minutes each in what looks like a whirlwind of a schedule. Alex Wheatle will do a reading, as will Tom Pollock from his London fantasy novel ‘The City’s Son‘, Chris Chalmers from his new book ‘Five to One‘ and lots of others from their respective prose. There’ll be short talks on subjects like ‘running a small press’ and ‘how to write a full-length book in a week’. And that’s all before the interval…
El Panzon will be on hand with their usual Mexican fare if all that reading makes the audience – and the authors – hungry.
The Brixton Book Jam runs from 7pm until late, and is free and open to all.
