    The National Union of Students has teamed up with  Jamm for a warm-up gig ahead of its United for Education national demonstration on 19 November. The line-up features talent from the UK urban and spoken word scene, including Tony D (Don’t Flop 3xUK champion, Poisonous Poets); Tabanacle (Street Deciplez, Black Triangle); Jaz Kahina (Flip Life TV, Pyro Radio); Big Ven (Ven Venzo); ABH (Top 16 UK Championship BeatBoxer); Mr. Wolfe (Wolfe BeatBoxer); and Jade the Poet (Poetry Slam. £6.50/7on the door students. £8.50/9 for non students. 7pm.

    Whirled Cinema

    The Commune reunites Danish director Thomas Vinterberg with scriptwriter Tobias Lindholm in a story that focuses on the clash between personal desires versus solidarity and tolerance in a commune in the mid-1970s. 8.30pm.  259-260 Hardess St SE24 0HN.

    Brixton Rec

    Over 45s charity Silver Fit offer Silver Cheerleading for all fitness levels led by Zoe and members of the fabulous London Cheerleaders, who bring their silver pom-poms along for a great fun workout. Cheerleading is good for everyone – women and men – and is brilliant exercise but not too strenuous. It requires cooperation, communication, and regular social interaction – all helping to make friends and enjoy peer support, reducing the risks or depression and anxiety, and even improving sleep.     Brixton Library

    Film screening and director introduction. Showing of Every Cook Can Govern, introduced by the film’s director. The first feature-length documentary to explore the life, writings and politics of the great Trinidadian born revolutionary CLR James who died in Brixton in 1989. The film interweaves exclusive, never-before-seen footage of James with unique testimony from those he knew and the world’s most eminent scholars on James’ life, works and politics. A feature-length documentary that grapples with issues from colonialism to cricket, from slavery to Shakespeare, from Marxism to the movies and from reading to revolution. 7.30pm.

    Pop Brixton

    Kids Kreate is run by volunteer artists to encourage kids to enjoy creating and making things, with something to take home at the end of it. Each Saturday; for children aged 5 to 12. Bring your kids along and have an hour or two off yourself. Free. 9.30 – 11.30am.

    Photo essay Exhibition Of Things Not Seen tells the story, through 46 black-and-white photographs, of a year in the ministry of the Revd Kit Gunasekera, vicar of St James Church, Clapham, taken by award-winning photographer Jim Grover, resident of Clapham for over 20 years.
