Pupils from Stockwell primary school left the classroom yesterday for Brixton’s threatened arches where they interviewed traders due to be evicted by Network Rail, surveyed the area with the help of Sarah Hackney of Brixton-based architects HackneyGrove and learnt about community campaigning from Our Brixton.
Teacher Aine Milner said the visit was part of a larger project involving the Royal Institution of British Architects that will see the pupils look at the history of the arches and the area surrounding them from the Second World War until today.
