A by-election has been called for the Tulse Hill ward after the sad death of Cllr Ruth Ling last week.
The election will be held on Thursday July 25 and you can find more information here.
Cllr Ling died of a heart attack and many have since paid tribute to her work as councillor. Labour MP for Streatham Hill, Chuka Umunna, said: “Deeply saddened and shocked to hear the news of the death of my good friend Cllr Ruth Ling.” Steve Reed MP wrote an obituary for Cllr Ling, which can be found here.
Like many others on the Tulse Hill estate, over the years councillor Ling has been of great help to me in resolving various problems. It is with much sadness and sorrow to hear of her death. She has always been a real representative of local people on this estate.
Out of respect, even though the by-election date has been set and no doubt candidates for all parties contesting this seat, chosen. There should be no campaigning until after the funeral of Cllr Ruth Ling, which I believe is to be held during the second week in July. Residents in Tulse Hill would expect nothing less from our prospective new Councillor and their party.
