Lambeth council and colleagues are mourning the loss of Kevin Oldfield, a member of the borough’s parks team who worked in Brockwell Park for 15 years. He passed away suddenly last week.
Kevin had worked in Lambeth’s parks for more than 25 years. In Brockwell Park he looked after several horticultural features , including its magnificent walled garden.
Cllr Sonia Winifred, Lambeth’s council’s cabinet member for equalities and culture, said: “We are all shocked at this sudden loss and our thoughts are with Kevin’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“Colleagues in our parks team and people in our communities who knew him are also deeply saddened.
“Kevin was deeply dedicated to his job, and his passion for both horticulture and Lambeth’s parks was second to none.
“He was a friendly face, happy to chat with visitors to the walled garden and popular with park users.
“Brockwell Park’s walled garden has long provided a place for people to enjoy quiet reflection, and this has never been more important than over the last 18 months during the Coronavirus pandemic.
“The fact that it is so beautiful and appreciated by so many of our residents is in no small part due to Kevin’s hard work and dedication.
“He will really be missed.”
The council said it is in touch with Kevin’s family and will discuss with them a fitting tribute to him that acknowledges his hard work, dedication and contribution to Lambeth’s parks.
