As the clocks go back and Brixton businesses begin to gear up for winter and its many festivals, one local feature is ready and waiting to be revealed next week.
The inspiration for this year’s Winter Windows display in Squire & Partners’ Department Store on Ferndale Road is Dreamland.
This ties in with this year’s Brixton Business Improvement District’s (BID) Winter Festival 2021 theme of Brixton Dreamland.
Year 6 students from Reay Primary School, working with the Brixton architecture practice, were given a brief to design a shape to be transformed into a light that will sit in the windows of The Department Store over winter.
Their work will be unveiled on Thursday 4 November – the first day of Diwali – at 4.30pm.
The students developed their ideas over the course of two workshops (one at the school and one at The Department Store).
A panel of judges from Squire & Partners then selected a series of designs to be transformed into physical light installations by our modelshop team.
Students and their teachers will be outside the Department Store for the big reveal on Thursday.
