Album of the week: Bread & Butterflies by Slovo

Each week our music editor Dave Randall picks an album (with a local connection) you need to hear …

Bread & Butterflies by Slovo

For my twelfth and final lockdown album of the week, I must declare a personal interest. Bread & Butterflies by Slovo is an album I have been very much involved with.

So too has the Italian singer Barbarella who I first met at the Hootananny a  year ago. We are joined by US hip hop artist Mike Ladd and there are also a couple of appearances by Idris and Robin from Brixton legends the Soothsayers.

The album raises questions about the world, but ultimately its message is optimistic – born of the belief that we can get to a better place.

It’s released on 17 July, but you can preview it now on Bandcamp and check the single Woman On The Edge Of Time, which is out now.

Thanks for watching this series.
