Brixton Bard Alex Wheatle MBE has a new book published today (4 April).

Home Girl: or The Miseducation of Naomi Brisset is the fourth book in the Crongton series by the winner of the Guardian Children’s Book Award.

Home Giel Alex Wheatle coverTeenager Naomi is in the care system – a child treated like a pawn on a family chessboard.

But she funny, tender, tragic and full of courage – like the book.

This isn’t my home. Haven’t had a proper home since … This is just somewhere I’ll be resting my bones for a week and maybe a bit. This time next year you’ll forget who I am. I haven’t got a diddly where I’ll be by then. But I’m used to it

An emergency placement with a Black family whose experience of life is similar to hers provides a catalyst for the white 14-year-old to develop.

Publisher Little, Brown says it is Alex Wheatle’s most moving and personal novel to date.
