Donations to Brixton Windmill’s fundraising appeal for its new education centre reached a peak of £1,605 yesterday (25 June) and two anonymous donors to the campaign have each contributed £1,000.

“Just as heartening are the wonderful comments about the project and its importance to the local community,” say The Friends of Windmill Gardens who are organising the £12,000 appeal.

Its members are all volunteers who have worked hard for the new education centre and really appreciate that they have so much local support.

But they still have more than £4,000 to raise in the eight days before the deadline of midday on Wednesday 4 July. That’s over £500 a day.

And while big donations are extremely welcome, the smaller ones add up. If 432 people gave £10 each, or 216 £20 each, the target would be achieved.

If the £12,000 target is not reached, the appeal will get nothing.
