News outlets in both Britain and Ireland are reporting that Brixton Market has been sold for £37.3 million to a consortium led by Irish-born property trader Aidan Brooks.
His Mayfair-based Tribeca Holdings owns the Old Spitalfields Market – where “luxe” is mixed with “local” – as well as properties in Knightsbridge, Covent Garden, Oxford Street and Bond Street.
According to the Sunday Times Rich List, the Oxford Street properties house brands like Rolex, Chanel and Estée Lauder.
Brooks also controls properties in Paris and Manhattan and has been associated with the owners of the Irish Coolmore Stud, John Magnier and JP McManus, whose great wealth now comes from property and the bond markets.
Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley, who is about to open a “luxury” Flannels store on Pope’s Road, had been in the bidding for the market.
