Point of View project party at Brixton Pound café

Young women from Brixton’s Baytree Centre gathered in the Brixton Pound café last night to celebrate A Point of View – a photographic project showing the work of homeless people using disposable cameras. They were joined by sponsors and people from other community projects.

Their project is part of Spark, a programme for 13–16 year olds run by the centre.

One of the young sparks, Nya, explained:  “This year we ran a project to showcase the creativity of the homeless in Brixton. Our project is called ‘A Point of View’.

“For this project, we were funded by London Youth to help improve our community and we chose to look at the lifestyle of the homeless and do an exhibition in the Pound café.

“We collected pictures that we asked homeless people to take using disposable cameras, via the Brixton Soup Kitchen.”

The pictures were collectedon 6 July and a panel seleced the best picures for the exhibition which ends today.
