The Only Way is Essex star James Lock has raised £2,000 for The Clink Charity after a fundraiser at HMP Brixton, writes Joe Wallen.
The reality star, who owns a restaurant in Romford, hosted lunch at The Clink Restaurant at HMP Brixton last month to raise funds to support prisoner rehabilitation.
The menu was created for the event, and prepared and served by prisoners working and training in the restaurant, with assistance from Lock and his team.
120 diners joined Lock and his fellow TOWIE stars, paying £15 per ticket for the three course meal.
The Clink Charity runs training for prisoners helping individuals to obtain their catering NVQ qualifications.
This training aims to improve the prospects of prisoners once they finish their sentence and attempt to re-integrate into life outside of prison. The charity’s training projects have a 41% success rate in reducing re-offending.
Locke commented on hosting the lunch: “It’s an issue close to my heart and the men and women working with The Clink Charity all deserve a second chance at life.”
The Clink Charity’s restaurant in Brixton ranks fourth on TripAdvisor out of the 17,835 restaurants in London.
Chris Moore, chief executive of The Clink Charity said: “We are delighted to have James Lock and his team from Lockie’s Kitchen involved with the charity and working with the prisoners in training at HMP Brixton.
“James has generously donated all the ingredients for the lunch meaning every penny raised will go straight to The Clink Charity. “
