A fund-raising single recorded at Brixton’s Raw Material project to raise money for a permanent memorial to the Caribbean and African soldiers who died fighting for Britain in two world wars will have a special launch at the Black Cultural Archives on Windrush Square this month.
A limited CD edition of the single will be launched at the Black Cultural Archives on 11 December. The official release on iTunes is due 22 January next year. It features many up and coming artists from reggae, hip hop, r n b, afrobeat and world music.
Jak Beula said: “It’s great that this song has brought people together from different parts of the diaspora and musical experiences, to create a musical show of cultural unity for a good cause.”
Grammy award nominated Roberson added his vocals to the track while he was in London in the summer doing gigs at the Jazz Café.
It is hoped that the memorial, currently stored at the archives, can be unveiled at a memorial scheduled for VE Day (8 May) 2016.
