Redevelopment of Lambeth town hall is one of three projects in Brixton to receive funding from the mayor of London’s “Housing Zones” project designed to create 20 zones with 50,000 new homes by 2025.
Its focus is on “recovery and recycling investment”, rather than conventional grants.
The other two zones are the site of the Fitch Court care home on Effra Road and Brixton Central – which includes the current Pop Brixton site, the Rec and International House, the train station, Brixton Station Road, Atlantic Road and the area between the viaducts off Valentia Place.
About £600m will go to the whole of Lambeth to build more than 1,500 new homes and community facilities.
