Christ Church Primary School recently got a visit from celebrity chef Jamie Oliver as he prepares for this year’s Food Revolution Day.
Last year the Christ Church was named by Boris Johnson as a flagship school for the London School Food Plan.
Lambeth is one of the two boroughs which are flagships in the project.
The primary on Cancell Road, Brixton, is known for its “pioneering approach to food”, in large part due to its rooftop garden.
The garden has ducks, herbs, vegetables and fruits and an outdoor oven.
The children help grow and cultivate the food and take through to the Food Lab where it is prepared it for cooking.
Christ Church Primary said the celebrity chef “loved it and has asked to come back in the summer when the gardens are in full bloom!”
A small group of children from the school will appear in the promotional photos and videos for Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Day on May 15.
Jamie Oliver said he hopes his Food Revolution Day will help “create a strong sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again and empower people everywhere to fight obesity.”
