Lambeth police are searching for three boys, aged between 10 and 13-years-old, after two women were subjected to separate attacks of a sexual nature in Brockwell Park.
One victim, a 16-year-old girl, was sitting on a bench in the park with a friend when a boy approached her from behind and groped her breasts. When she managed to break free and stand up, the boy pulled her close to his body. She was then able to run away, while the boy shouted abuse of a “violent sexual nature” at her and exposed himself, police say. The incident happened at about 6pm on August 16.
In another attack, a 28-year-old woman was jogging in the park when two boys riding bicycles grabbed her buttocks, at 6.30pm on August 11. When she confronted the two boys they reportedly shouted more verbal sexual abuse.
Police have issued descriptions of the three boys as follows:
The first is described as a dark skinned Asian male of slim build, with short straight black hair, big brown eyes and has a London accent. He is about 5ft 3ins tall, aged 10 to 12 years and was wearing a grey zip-up hooded top and riding a dark bicycle.
The second is described as a black male of a slim build, with short black hair. He is about 5ft 3ins tall, aged 10 – 12 years and has a London accent.
The third is described as a black male of a stocky build, with braided hair and a London accent. He is aged 11-13 years and was riding a bicycle.
Trainee Detective Constable Jen Barley said: “This is very unusual and aggressive behaviour by males of such a young age, I know of two members of the public that stopped and offered help to the victims. Please would anyone that stopped or saw what happen please get in contact with us.”
Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to contact TDC Barley on 0208 649 2192 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Forget CCTV and police. This is what happens when there is so much overt sexuality in Pop culture aimed at teenagers these days. Flick on MTV for 15 minutes – you won’t believe your eyes. I actually don’t know how people are getting away with it. Throw into the mix extremely accessible pornography….I believe these are all factors which lead to behaviour like this by some more fragile individuals.
This is what happens when there is no monitoring or CCTV in that park or any other London park or even at the entrances. The Park Wardens were got rid of a couple of years ago. It is hard to catch anybody especially if they are riding a bicycle and the victim is on foot, there are at least 8 entrances to Brockwell Park all leading onto main busy roads with numerous side streets. There are not only attacks on people there are also attacks on small dogs by larger dogs and there is not a thing you can do if the other party walks, runs or rides off. All you can do is use your mobile to call for help and it is usually too late by then. What is needed is for the Police to drive around this park on a regular basis and to challenge any suspicious or aggressive behaviour. Police patrols are rarely seen in the park, yet it covers 126 acres of South Lambeth.
