Mothercare, in Brixton Road, was closed this afternoon after the tragic news that a female staff member died of a cardiac arrest while at work.
Paramedics were called to the store after reports that a 44-year-old employee had collapsed.
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: “We were called just before 1.30pm to reports of a patient taken unwell at Mothercare in Brixton Road.
“We treated the patient at the scene, who was suffering a cardiac arrest.
“Sadly, despite extensive efforts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Mothercare has been closed for the rest of the afternoon.
