The biggest free community party in Brixton and south London, the Lambeth Country Show, will return to its usual July weekend this year, the council have confirmed.
The 39th Country Show, much loved for its eccentric mix of reggae, sheep shearing and vegetable sculptures, will take place on on Saturday July 20 and Sunday July 21 in Brockwell Park, Herne Hill.
eCllr Sally Prentice, Cabinet member for Culture and Leisure, said: “We are delighted to announce that the Lambeth Country Show will be returning to its regular summer weekend this year.
“The ongoing popularity of this fantastic event was proved with the huge turnout we enjoyed in September. I expect this summer’s Lambeth Country Show to be equally popular.
“We are still in the planning stage so there is still time for residents, community groups and businesses to get involved and take part in shaping this year’s event.”
The council will be offering 40 per cent discount on stalls at the show for Lambeth Residents.
Last year Lambeth were forced into an embarassing u-turn over the event, after first announcing it would be cancelled, the re-instating it for a weekend in September. Nearly 2,000 people signed a petition organised by Brixton Blog calling on the council to go ahead with the show.
