Brixton will become the borough’s only police station offering a 24 hour counter service, under plans announced by the Mayor of London’s office today.
The draft plan would see Clapham, Gipsy Hill and Cavendish Road stations closed completely. Kennington and Streatham police stations will no longer be open 24 hours.
The draft plan, announced today, outlines cuts which will help MOPAC (Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime) save 30% in the cost of running buildings used by the Metropolitan Police.
The deputy mayor for policing, Stephen Greenhalgh, will come to the Brixton Electric, Brixton Hill, tonight, to kick off a London-wide roadshow to consult with residents over the plans.
This week, Lambeth Cllr Jack Hopkins urged residents to attend the free event, which starts at 6pm.
