UPDATE: Three people released on bail following police officer struck by a car in Tulse Hill

Two men and a woman, arrested after a police officer was badly hurt in a collision with a black BMW, have been released on bail.

The 35-year-old officer sustained a broken wrist and bruising after being hit by the car as he attended a call in Arlingford Road, Tulse Hil at about 9.50am yesterday.

A police spokesperson said today: “One of the officers, aged 35, noticed a black BMW parked nearby on double yellow lines and saw something being thrown out of the window.

“He went over to speak to the occupant who at this point started the engine and began to drive off. The BMW then collided with the PC before driving off in the direction of Brixton. Witnesses reported seeing the officer being flipped over the bonnet of the car before landing on the pavement.”

A BMW was later discovered by police officers in the Tulse Hill Estate. Two 26-year-old men and a woman, 28, were arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm. They were released on bail yesterday (Monday) pending further enquiries.

The injured officer was taken to Kings College hospital, Denmark Hill. He was treated for his injuries and released later on Sunday.

A shopkeeper at Food and Wine, Tulse Hill, who did not want to be named, said: “We were sleeping upstairs and heard the helicopter. It was then that we saw about 15 police cars in the street below.”
