Lambeth police investigating another attempted robbery of someone who had just withdrawn a large sum from a Brixton bank have released CCTV footage of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.
On Friday 2 September police were called at around 2pm after a report of the attempted robbery of an elderly couple outside Farnfield House on Dray Gardens off St Matthew’s Road in Brixton.
About half an hour earlier the 83-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman had withdrawn money from a bank on Brixton High Street and put it into a black shoulder bag. They travelled back towards Dray Gardens on a 59 bus.
As they walked along Dray Gardens they were approached from behind by the suspect.
Police have identified the suspect in the bank, and he is believed to have followed them home.
Police also sought help recently  over another recent robbery in which the victim was followed after withdrawing a large sum from a Brixton bank.
The suspect in the latest robbery attempt grabbed the victims’ bag and pulled both of them to the ground as he struggled to steal it.
The suspect told them to let go of the bag and bit the back of the man’s hand, leaving a large open wound.
But he then ran off empty-handed towards Hicken Road.
He left the woman with a fractured arm and extensive bruising. Her husband sustained cuts and bruising to his shoulder, cuts to his knee caused by being dragged along the pavement and a flesh wound to the hand.
Both were taken to hospital and later discharged.
The suspect is described as a stocky black man, aged in his late 20s, 5ft 10ins tall, with shoulder-length dreadlocks. He was wearing grey tracksuit and a black woolly hat.
Police are keen to hear from anyone who may recognise the man shown on CCTV or who witnessed the incident.
