A video of a Cressingham Gardens resident tells the story of how she arrived at the estate and how she feels her life will be changed for the worse once it is demolished.
Mary’s Story, a six minute film (below) made by Joanne Parkes, features Mary Parker, 77, who is retired and has been diagnosed with dementia.
In the video Mary discusses her love of the community on the estate and her fear for the damage to her mental well-being if the demolition goes ahead.
On Monday July 13 Lambeth Council voted in favour of knocking down the estate.
The council says this will increase the number of homes on the site and will be a better deal for those who already live there.
However, residents and their supporters protested against the move outside Monday’s council meeting as they say what is necessary is refurbishment of the estate, not demolition which will break up their community.
Residents are now applying for a judicial review into the process.
