Young people who completed a “life-changing” 12 week project with a Brixton-based charity have graduated at a glittering ceremony.
The 11 youngsters had followed the Options 4 Change Tournaround Project, which focused on changing life-attitudes and showing them their own potential.
Each participant was presented with a certificate of completion at an event at Middlesex University on August 22.
Speakers included Jamaican High Commissioner, Her Excellency Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, academic Professor Gus John and boxing promoter and Brixtonian Spencer Fearon. Other speakers were the Founder of Options 4 Change Donna Sinclair and Lon- don Probation Trust’s Janett Brown.
Her Excellency Ndombet- Assamba recalled her youth in Jamaica. “My mother was a house- wife, and my father worked in the bauxite industry.” She emphasised the importance of education in her own life. “It doesn’t matter where you come from”, she said, “it mat- ters where you are going.”
Mr Fearon spoke about the need for respect, and invited any of the graduates to learn to box with him,or to visit any of his events. Options 4 Change was set up by Donna Sinclair to work with those aged 7 to 19-years old and to “change young people’s lives for the better.”
