Brixton Ballers, the inspiring local wheelchair basketball team, are appealing for the return, or information about the whereabouts, of a stolen wheelchair.

All wheelchairs are vital lifelines, but this one means even more than most to its user.

It is designed for elite athletes and was donated to the club which has played and trained at Brixton Rec for more than seven years.

It was used by David Batista, a promising young player, who has ben devastated by the loss of the brand-new wheelchair which cost about £5,000.

He was hoping to use it to showcase his skills and win the attention needed to achieve his ambition to play for the Great Britain wheelchair basketball team.

The chair was stolen from the Rec some time between Saturday 31 July and 7 August.

Anyone who can help – no questions asked if the chair is returned undamaged – should contact Ballers’ coach Percy Hutchfull: percyhutchful@gmail.com.
