Grove Adventure Playground held a fantastic end of summer BBQ at Gordon Grove last Friday (31 August) with many children, parents and members of the community dropping in throughout the day, says Lewis.
Special guests, including a visit by Brixton Fire Brigade, came to the end of summer party, celebrating the re-opening of this iconic 50 year old adventure playground by LJAG earlier this year.
Lewis says: “The children had a great day, playing with new friends made this summer, organising a talent show, exploring the various uses of a loudhailer and inspecting the fire engine, while everyone enjoyed a healthy home made barbecue with the Grove’s famous groovy smoothies.”
The playground was only recently reopened (see Blog report here) by local volunteers and the Loughborough Junction Action Group (LJAG) after being closed for three years when its funding from Lambeth council dried up. They worked hard for more than a year to reopen the Grove Adventure Playground in Gordon Grove, off Minet Road (SE5 9DT).
Funding from The People’s Health Trust and the Fresh Leaf Foundation for the reopening has now been exhausted and the playground is now actively seeking fund.
The playground was getting increasingly derelict until LJAG stepped in and recruited a dedicated band of volunteers who felt passionately that children and young people in Loughborough Junction desperately need supervised play.
