Firefighters rescued six people from a second floor balcony during a blaze in Streatham Hill on Saturday night.

Crews were called to the fire in Tierney Road, near Streatham Place, at 10.40pm. They had the fire under control about an hour later.

Four fire engines, 21 firefighters and officers from West Norwood, Tooting and Clapham fire stations attended, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade’s fire investigation team and the police.

Nobody was injured in the fire, which badly damaged an apartment on two floors of the building.
