Boxer “Hollywood Josh” Ejakpovi, who trains at Brixton’s Afewee gym in the Rec, has a big fight coming up.
He meets Kingsley Egbunike on 19 November at East London’s York Hall in a super welterweight (70 kilos) bout that will see the winner get a shot at the England title at this weight.
Josh trains with Afewee professional fighters’ team led by coaches Bobby Militiadous and Conor Ward.
He gets his name from his work in films – he appeared, for instance, with Samuel L Jackson in Legend of Tarzan.
Josh comes from a sporting family, but is not a stereotypical boxer. He studied fine art at Camberwell College of Arts and is actively involved in charities working against domestic violence.
He also figured in The Fight at The Tate Modern gallery – a boxing, music and dance performance, conceived by Panamanian artist Humberto Vélez working with South London youth and community groups.
Josh’s current professional record stands at 16 fights, winning 14 (three by knock outs) and two losses.
Tickets are now on sale for his fight – contact Bobby on 07983 151082.
