The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – William and Kate – visited Brixton House theatre today (22 June) to learn about and talk to young people involved in Lambeth council’s Elevate project.
Its mission is to support diverse talent and make sure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive on the borough’s leading creative and digital industries.
In its pilot year, the Elevators, Elevate’s youth advisory group, assessed and scored 19 project applications, making seven awards of £7,000.
William and Kate met the Elevators, a group of 18–30-year-olds based in Lambeth who co-design and consult on the ELEVATE programme.
They also met young people working with the Brixton-based Oxygen Arts and Iconic Steps projects.
The royal couple later unveiled the new Windrush memorial at Waterloo station.
