Brixton Performs is Back!

This March see some of the best South London comedy and music talent in venues across Brixton between 22 – 26 March 2022. This year Brixton will see a larger festival thanks to additional funding from the Welcome Back Fund, part of the England European Regional Development Fund.

Comedy will fill Pop Brixton, The Department Store and Upstairs at the Ritzy, with headliners Bobby Mair, Michael Odewale and Toussaint Douglass, joined by Abigail Carter-Simpson, Sarah Callaghan, Leo Riech, Jamie D’Souza, Olga Koch and many more!

Enjoy free live music from Edgy Satsuma at POW, Noreen Stewart at The Laundry, Mr Higgs at Brixton Brewery Taproom, Kyra Vision at Brixton Village, Brixton Chamber Orchestra at Brixton Windmill, with more musicians being added every day.

The first night of Brixton Performs will see comedy at Pop Box with headliner Bobby Mair who will be joined by Rich Spalding, Alfie Brown, Ed Night, Alexander Haddow and Ross Smith. Doors at 6.30pm, show starts at 7pm. Book your tickets now!

COMEDY AT DOWNSTAIRS THE DEPARTMENT STORE

The Department Store will be hosting comedy on Wednesday. Headliner Michael Odewale is a fresh and unfiltered voice known for delivering sharp and beautifully executed content, Odewale is taking the comedy world by storm. His debut show #BlackBearsMatter won Best Show at both the 2019 Leicester and Hastings Comedy Festivals and achieved critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe 2019, earning him a nomination for Best Newcomer in the Dave Edinburgh Comedy Awards.

Michael will be joined by one of the UK’s most exciting young comedians Bella Hull, comedy powerhouse Helen Bauer, . EDGY SATSUMA AT POW

Edgy Satsuma is a new events brand giving a platform to rising musicians to promote their work and do what they love most. Bringing a new line up every week and finishing each night off with a live DJ set, giving you all the chance to get up dancing and mingling with fellow satsuma guests.

RHIANNA ARBERY AT TEQUILA MOCKINGBIRD

Rhianna Abrey is a British singer and reality TV contestant, best known for competing in the seventh season of ‘The Voice UK.’ Although she did not make it to the finals, she reached the knockout stages of the show. She is one of the few contestants who has been part of both ‘Team will.i.am’ and ‘Team Jennifer Hudson’ in the same season.

DJ SHORTEE BLITZ & BILLY BIZNIZZ AT CHIP SHOP

DJ Biznizz is a UK hip hop pioneer active in the culture since 1982 as a B Boy and later as a DJ. Alongside B Boy Halit, he was founder of Live 2 Break crew one of London’s infamous B Boy crews in the ’80s.

Shortee Blitz is the UK’s #1 hip-hop and club DJ and one of the scene’s most popular personalities. He is a tireless supporter of urban music and, through his numerous performances with artists ranging from De La Soul and LL Cool J to Jay-Z and Nas, he has firmly established himself on the international scene. Shortee’s signature skills of cutting, scratching and mixing as well as an ability to consistently rock the dance floor is recognized by the industry and his global fan base. Having won the Best DJ award at the Mobos in 2003 and subsequently being recognised as the UK’s Best Hip-Hop DJ and Best Hip-Hop Personality, Shortee is no stranger to award nominations or award ceremonies.

COMEDY AT UPSTAIRS THE RITZY

Join us to laugh out loud in Upstairs at the Ritzy on Thursday 24 March. Toussaint Douglass is one of comedy’s most exciting and talked about new names and is already making serious waves across the industry. His innovative brand of stand up mixes the personal with the political, whilst adding a uniquely absurdist slant to brilliant comic effect.

Douglass will be joined by Abigail Carter-Simpson, Sarah Callaghan, Leo Riech, Jamie D’Souza and MC Olga Koch. Doors at 6.30pm, show starts at 7pm. Book your tickets now!

BURLESQUE & CABARET AT THE COURTESAN

NOREEN STEWART AT THE LAUNDRY

Noreen Stewart’s Vocal Style ranges from an unapologetically raw powerhouse to sweet and sensual, with vocal performances that are captivating, and charismatically filled with drama and emotion.

KYRA VISION AT BRIXTON VILLAGE

Kyra’s undeniable charisma caught the eye of chart topper Sigala inviting her to tour with him. An opportunity which saw Kyra perform for over 90,000 people at Wembley Stadium and V Festival but most notably in the comfort of BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge where presenter Clara Amfo described her performance as an “incredible” experience. CHRISTIAN ELLESSE AT LOUNGE BRIXTON

One half of Brixton local DJ couple, Handson Family, will be playing a blend of soulful sounds. Handson Family will be hosting the heritage stage for the second year running at Brockwell Park’s Cross The Tracks on Sunday 5 June.

BRIXTON CHAMBER ORCHESTRA AT BRIXTON WINDMILL

Hot off their Estates Tour, catch Brixton Chamber Orchestra at Brixton Windmill on Saturday afternoon from 1pm – 2pm, playing a mixture of classical pieces and modern cross over.
