Brixton Wholefoods on Atlantic Road is closed today (21 October) following a break-in during which the shop was trashed.
Proprietor Hilary Waterfield said the intruder gained access to the shop by making a small hole in the roof and then jumping down from a considerable height.
They ransacked the shop, apparently looking for cash, but found none and left without taking anything else that was available – including a laptop.
The difficulty of taking out anything via the ceiling may have been the reason.
Hilary is planning to open this Sunday to make up for the lost opportunity for sales for both shop and shoppers.
