The charity Re:Sole is part of a Brixton Village donation drive due to start next week.
Re:Sole, which recycles shoes for the homeless, is partnering with another charity Compliments of the House, also based in the covered markets, which feeds homeless and other people in need.
The drive will be open for donations every Wednesday through to Sunday from 3 to 8pm in Market Row’s “cardboard” unit near the Coldharbour Lane entrance.
Visitors can also donate items outside of these hours, by following drop-off signs to the management office.
To help both charities to support the local community, Hondo Enterprises – which runs the markets on a day-to-day basis – will match any cash donations.
All proceeds will be split equally between the two charities.
Re:Sole founder Moosa Nsubuga said: “Ahead of our proposed opening and the winter months approaching, we hope this donation drive gives us an opportunity to educate and mobilise the local community and traders on what we do and how they can access and support our services.
“The need for footwear by the homeless community is overwhelming.
“Without the support of the public and our donors, it would not be possible to help them.”
