Brixton covered markets in virus protection first

The Bioprotectus system being applied in Brixton

Brixton’s indoor markets are to be protected against coronavirus by the first UK use of a new protective system.

The Bioprotectus™ system is supplied by BioSupplies.com, which says that, when it is applied to surfaces and spaces, it creates a durable protective shield that provides antimicrobial protection for up to 90 days inhibiting and preventing the growth and spread of algae, bacteria, fungi, moulds and viruses.

The system has been installed in Brixton Village and Market Row in a partnership between the giant UK property firm Savills and Hondo Enterprises, which owns the markets with the New York based hedge find Angelo Gordon.

Hondo said in a statement that the system features a water-based anti-microbial agent called Bioprotect™ which has been independently verified to eradicate the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 from surfaces for more than six weeks.

Hondo said it and Savills have agreed to use the system to support properties, including Brixton Village, Cancer Research UK and the Leadenhall building in the City of London, and to extend the service to occupiers in managed properties.

“As we emerge from the lockdown, one of the most important economic challenges is giving consumers the confidence to re-emerge into the public sphere and to patronise retail and hospitality businesses,” said Taylor McWilliams, director of Hondo Enterprises.

“We were able to team up with BioProtect in order to bring this incredible product to the UK in order to make sure people can socialise, shop and feel safe outside of their homes.”

Hondo said that in early June, the Global Virus Network, an international coalition of virologists, announced after “extensive tests” that two of its centres of excellence had demonstrated that a Bioprotect™ formulation by ViaClean Technologies eradicates SARS-CoV-2, the unique coronavirus that causes COVID-19, on surfaces and provides continuous residual virucidal activity for more than six weeks.
