Age UK Lambeth is appealing for community volunteers on Christmas Day to make lunch special for seniors at the Vida Walsh centre on Saltoun Road writes Simone Richardson.
Fundraiser Claire Nethersole said: “We open on Christmas Day and serve dinner to 40 people who would otherwise be on their own and deliver another 40 to those who can’t come out.”
She gave the example of Jacquie who used to spend her Christmas Day on her own eating cheese on toast. Now she looks forward to Christmas with Age UK.
Volunteers pick the clients up, cook and serve the dinner and don Christmas hats to sing carols and play games.
It costs £14 to provide each Christmas dinner and any support could make a difference to an older person in Lambeth this Christmas.
Any potential volunteers should visit www.ageuk.org.uk. To donate either text ‘LAMBETHXMAS’ or go to the Just giving page. Alternatively, call 020 7346 6800.
