Ten arches and eight kiosks on Atlantic Road are being marketed for letting by commercial property specialists Grant Mills Wood under the name “Brixton Pillars”.
Publicity material for the offer says that 12 former tenants will return to the properties that are currently owned by Network Rail. Most of the railway infrastructure organisation’s arches in England and Wales.including those in Brixton, are set to be sold off.
The sale material says that the refurbished arches – which are still behind hoardings – will have new glazed shopfronts, white arch lining, new insulated concrete floor slabs, perimeter drainage and security shutters.
Work on the arches is continuing and the interiors appear to have a long way to go before they are ready for occupation.
Several long-established businesses that were an integral part of Brixton life, including Mash Brothers fishmongers and Budget Carpets, will not return.
