Bus company Arriva’s London South garage – described as “Team Brixton” – has won the Transport for London (TfL) London bus garage of the year award.
The award, sponsored by DriveTech, recognises garages that provide “an outstanding service day in day out”.
Arriva says Team Brixton “continually strives for excellence and has delivered an exceptional level of service – making sure customer expectations are exceeded wherever possible. The team invest time and effort in supporting their local community too, one such initiative is working with the local Scouts to help encourage and promote bus travel across the capital.”
Earlier this year the garage sent a bus to Streatham Montessori nursery, which is based nearby, to bring pupils and teachers to the garage.
The idea for the trip came from a request by principal Fehmida Gangji, who had a transport project for the children and felt that a practical demonstration would be a great way of introducing it.
Mark Yexley, chairman of the UK Bus Awards, said: “The judges were impressed with the amount of commitment and passion within the business, Team Brixton are truly dedicated to their colleagues, customers and communities.”
The award ceremony, hosted by BBC News Channel presenter Jane Hill, is taking place today (21 November).
UK Bus Awards have been recognising the bus industry for more than 20 years. They are independently judged by expert panels featuring more than 40 people from a variety of backgrounds, including consumer groups, academics, former managers and industry analysts.
