Fat White Family play surprise gig at Windmill Brixton

Local rock band Fat White Family played a surprise gig at Windmill Brixton on 16 May to raise funds for the funeral of their friend Mark Carnell. You can catch them again in Brixton at the Academy on 17 September.

The Levellers announce 25th anniversary tour

Brighton folk punk band the Levellers will play their classic ‘91 album ‘Levelling the Land’ in full plus other hits on a major UK tour supported by Ferocious Dog to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of that same album. There’s a stop off at Brixton Academy pencilled in for 3 December.

Childhood finish second album

Surf rock band from Brixton Childhood have finished recording their second album, according to their Instagram account. The psych rock foursome have spent the last few weeks in America putting the final touches to their much anticipated follow up to 2014’s Lacuna.

414 Club wins appeal to stop redevelopment as flats

Good news for independent music venues: the owner of famous 414 dance club on Coldharbour Lane has challenged Lambeth Council in court and won. The High Court ordered Lambeth to reconsider its decision to grant planning permission to redevelop Brixton’s legendary Club 414 for shops and flats.

Get ready to party in Brockwell Park this summer

Brockwell Park is set to be buzzing this summer with three music festivals across May, June and July – not forgetting the wonderful Lambeth Country Show on 16-17 July. GALA is the first of the bunch, taking place on the second May bank holiday, with food, games and music and headline sets from Nightmares on Wax and Norman Jay. Next up is Found Festival, a dance show taking place 11 June with sets from Deep House Don, Kerri Chandler and Derrick May. Finally on 9-10 July there’s Sunfall, a new electronic music festival with some big names headlining including Jamie XX, Joy Orbison and Goldie.
