Supporters will this week mark the closure of two Lambeth libraries – and their determination to maintain the opposition to it –  with children’s events, a farewell party and candle-lit vigils.

From 4 to 6pm today there will be a children’s book at bedtime event at the Minet Library in Myatt’s Fields. “Bring a sleeping bag and pillow and read to your child (even if they’ve grown up) – everyone welcome,” say the organisers

Tomorrow, Wednesday, 30 March, the Carnegie Library in Herene Hill will host an Easter event for children with story time at 10.30am; an egg hunt at 11am; and crafts from 11 to 12.30am

On Thursday, 31 March, there will be a farewell party at the Carnegie from 4 to 6pm and a candle-lit vigil from 6pm to late at both the Carnegie and the Minet.

Jeff Doorn, chair of Friends of Carnegie Library, said: “Our Carnegie Library has provided the light of learning and inspiration for nearly 110 years. The vigil will be a fitting way to express our gratitude, as well as our determination not to let the light be extinguished.”
