Lambeth college’s head of journalism Roz McKenzie has been appointed director and trustee of the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ).
Roz McKenzie has taught NCTJ accredited courses since 2005. More recently, she has been at the forefront of the hugely successful pilot for the NCTJ’s advanced journalism apprenticeships, with the first cohort graduating in November 2015.
On 26 November 2015, ITV journalist Mark Austin presented McKenzie with an award at The NCTJ Skills Conference, when the college’s journalism department was recognised as the best fast track education course provider in the UK.
Roz said, “It is an honour to be asked to join the NCTJ board to help maintain standards and the relevance of this top class training in the industry, both now and into the future.”
Dan Wright, a Lambeth College alumni and the NCTJ’s first ever ‘apprentice of the year’ award winner, has nothing but praise for his former tutor.
He said, “I was taught by Roz from September 2013 to July 2015. The NCTJ apprenticeship scheme was a perfect grounding and Roz oversaw the college side of the scheme, teaching the apprentices every Friday.”
“In that time, I went from starting out as an editorial apprentice to covering my own patch as a trainee reporter at the KM Media Group in Kent.”
“It’s great that Roz has now been promoted to director and trustee of the NCTJ as I hope she can continue to promote apprenticeships.”
Applications for Lambeth College’s NCTJ fast track and journalism apprenticeship courses are now open.
