Brixton Hill has been closed southbound at the junction with Josephine Avenue following a collision.
At 10.25am this morning the northbound direction was reduced to one lane.
Routes 45, 59, 109, 118, 133, 159, 250 and 333 are currently on diversion.
I would love it if Brixton Blog made a Freedom of Information request asking how many times over the past 3 years this part of Brixton Hill has had to close (with police having to attend) due to vehicle collision. The area around Brixton Hill-Brixton Water Lane-Lambert Road is a very dangerous area – I see near-misses all the time and the road is closed quite frequently. Something needs to be improved before there is a fatality. I’d like to see a filter light for vehicles travelling north along Brixton Hill and wanting to turn right into Brixton Water Lane.
I’d like to see more active patrolling of speeding cars not only on this road but also the adjacent main road; Tulse Hill. Vehicles speed well in excess of 30 mph especially going down this road and is there a camera or any speed calming measures – no. Not talking about 35 mph in a 30 mph zone here; some cars and vans must be doing at least 50-60 mph. At night it would not be a surprise if that is greater than 60 mph. The authorities harp on about 20mph zones – what a laugh, they cannot even manage the 30mph zones that we already have.
