A 67-year-old woman arrested following a bizarre case of apparent slavery and “domestic servitude” in Brixton has been released without charge today.

Chanda Balakrishnan was arrested in November last year during the investigation into alleged slavery that saw the nation’s media descend on Peckford Place, Brixton.

Since their apprehension by police her husband, 73-year-old Aravindan Balakrishnan, has also been arrested in connection with serious sexual offences on July 29. He has been re-bailed to a date in mid-December, a police spokesperson said today.

The move adds to the mystery of the case, which created a huge interest at the time, but has since dropped off the radar of mainstream media outlets.
