Four men have been sentenced to over 27 years’ imprisonment after a “ferocious” attack left a man unconscious in a Morley’s chicken shop, Brixton.
The men, one armed with a brick, set upon their 46-year old victim following an argument in the fast-food restaurant, in Brixton Road, almost exactly one year ago (July 8 2013). They kicked him and stamped on his head as he lay on the ground, leaving him with a broken nose, multiple other fractures and cuts to his face.
Police found the victim lying unconscious and he was taken to Kings College Hospital.
Sentencing the men at Guildford Crown Court on Friday, Judge Fraser said “Whatever provocation, there was no need or necessity for the violence used which can only be described as ferocious”.
All four men have backgrounds as youth workers, to which Judge Fraser said “It’s remarkable that with this background you went on to commit this offence. You should know better.”
Leon Simmonds, 25 from Moorland Road, Brixton was found guilty of committing grievous bodily harm with intent and jailed for nine years at Guildford Crown Court on Friday.
Tesfaye Smith, 27, from Eaton Drive, Brixton pleaded guilty to committing grievous bodily harm with intent and was jailed for seven years and four months, while 24-year-old Dexter Padmore from Barville Close, Brockley pleaded guilty to committing grievous bodily harm with intent and was jailed for six years. Simeon Neill, 25, of High Street, Sutton, pleaded guilty to committing grievous bodily harm with intent and was jailed for five years and four months.
