Good at selling ad space? Want to work on an exciting community paper? The Brixton Bugle newspaper (circ 10,000) and its sister website Brixton Blog are looking for an experienced person to sell advertising in print and online.
We need a motivated sales whizz. Now. You’ll be crucial to our pioneering sustainable business model by building relationships with local business and national ad agencies. You will raise ad revenue for the Blog and Bugle, come up with new business ideas and upload ads to the site, as well as work to the monthly newspaper schedule.
The role is 16 hours per week, as full or part days to suit your schedule and that of the Bugle. Your basic pay will be the London Living Wage of £8.80 per hour, plus a very generous commission of around 10 per cent of your sales – with no upper limit. The job is based at our small office in central Brixton, but you’ll spend some of your time out meeting businesses and developing those crucial relationships. For the right person, we’ll look to extend your working hours as business develops in the future.
Understanding Brixton and how it works is pretty key to the role, so living locally would be an advantage. Ideally, you’ll come to this job with a creative attitude to how we can raise revenue at Brixton Blog beyond advertising sales and a passion for a grassroots community news project that punches well above its weight.
Please email with your CV and a covering letter, or call Tim Dickens, co-editor, on 0203 730 1312.
Closing date: Monday 12th May 2014 at midday. Interviews will take place in Brixton the following week.
